I stood recently at the Barcelona waterfront looking up at the statue of Christopher Columbus, remembering how, 40 years before, I had stood in that exact same spot, looking out to the sea, at the place that marks where he had sailed from in 1492.
I had just left school and been on my first ever flight, my first ever trip as an adult. With school just behind me, and my whole future in front of me.
But this time, I was looking back on the last 40 years and it felt quite surreal.
I recalled so much that has happened in the intervening years:
ten years with miworld – which in itself is deserving of a reflection and celebration
a 30 year career within the finance industry,
my marriage, my wonderful son,
so much joy and laughter on so many occasions, at home and abroad with friends, family, colleagues and strangers.
I then had the thought that while my life had been changing constantly, continuously and still does; the statue had stayed still. Of course it has never moved and served as a reminder for visitors of a ship that set sail many years ago, and changed our view of the world forever.
It was a lovely reflective moment and when I later talked it over with my friend, she asked, “If you had the chance to do it all again, would you change much?” and I was delighted to hear myself reply, “No, not very much at all” and raised a smile.
A lovely moment indeed and I hope you too have been blessed enough to share a Barcelona moment of your own and contemplate the great things in your life…so far.
