A few days ago, as the sun was dropping in the sky, I found myself at the foot of the Pentland hills about to go for a walk, a very hilly walk I was soon to discover! As we set out to quite a rapid ascent and after only a few minutes of climbing, I was out of breath which was a great reason to stop, turn round and admire the fantastic scenery. Hopefully the other walkers wouldn’t notice my lack of breath….
I was really impressed with the bright yellow gorse that was carpeting a lot of the hills – enriched by the power of light from the sun. The more we climbed the more stunning the scenery became and my heart was relieved when it was time to descend rather than climb the hill.
I was very sad that I had chosen to leave my camera behind, however that gave my friend Nagina and I the chance to go back with the camera and enjoy the scenery once more. The yellow was just as striking and we were met by some friendly cows near the top which was an added extra – most unexpected!
We took lots of pictures and rewarded ourselves with lunch at The Steading, an eatery at the outskirts ofEdinburgh.
So what started out as a missed opportunity turned into a great afternoon and was breathtaking in more ways than one – the effort in the climb or the views. Rewards come to those who put in the effort, worth every breath!
