How long is a long time for you?

I was asked the other day, ‘Do you have contact details for Keith?”

“Yes” I said, “but it may take a while for me to access them.”

You see, although my contacts are all on an on-line system that I can access anywhere in the world,

iphone, and wifi permitting…..I knew it would take me a wee while to log in and then look him up.

The reality, probably a couple of minutes.

Thinking about my words, “but it may take a while.” I laughed as my mind transported me back to my youth

No on-line anything, no mobile phone, not even a landline…..

If I had been asked back then for Keith’s number, it would have taken somewhat longer as after I got home,

I would have looked up his details (from a book), written them out, and then walk to the Post Office

to send the information to the person who needed it.

Interestingly, ‘I wouldn’t of thought that was a long time.’ That’s just how long it would have taken! But suddenly faced with this question today, I thought how our perceptions change as we grow and adapt to this ever changing world.

The speed and expectations of how fast we should be doing business, answering questions and generally

living life have changed incredibly as we move forward with ever faster and easily accessible information

to keep us ahead in our communications with our clients, colleagues and contacts.

This leads to a need for some reflection:

  • ask yourself how far have you come in your journey for your clients,
  • when do they need speed and when do they need a slower pace?
  • And what about you? When you look back on how far you have come, has it been  rewarding and pleasurable or are you always forging ahead?

I hope you have made time to stop and enjoy your journey – after all, that is what life is for.

Till the next time,

Kind Regards,
