I was inspired to discover this was “Winnie the Pooh” week, just after watching the film, “Goodbye Christopher Robin” on a recent plane journey. It’s story of the real Christopher, the son of A.A.Milne and was I saddened to discover that the success of the hundred acre wood adventures didn’t bring as much excitement to the family as the stories themselves.
Many kids, like myself enjoyed these stories at the heart of their childhood and many of us continue to love the stuffed bear and his friends, have not them go as we transitioned into adulthood and brought them to life again through sharing them with the kids we know in our world too.
I don’t want to spoil the film for those who have not seen it yet, what I do want to do is look at one of my favourite quotes, spoken from Christopher Robin to Winnie the Pooh:
“If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together…
there is something you must always remember.
You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem,
and smarter than you think.
But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart…
I’ll always be with you.”
When I was contemplating miworld, I had all these doubts about my ability, my capability and my responsibility. Was I good enough to build a business, was I brave, was I strong and was I really smart? Was I braver, was I stronger, was I smarter, enough to push through the doubts the fears and the terror to actually jump from thinking about it to doing it? Believe me, I spent many hours pondering that one and I am sure that you did too! Now you know that I did make the leap, and we know that you did too, but there are many who didn’t because they didn’t think they were, perhaps because they didn’t have a Christopher Robin to help them along the way, or a planning Rabbit, or a wise Owl, or a friendly Piglet or a Kanga or even a vulnerable Roo, kept safe in his mothers pouch? And there was always poor old Eeyore looking for sympathy in the bleak world he created for himself!
This quote sums it all up, we are brave strong and smart, but sometimes need a gentle reminder that we are. We are also made braver, stronger and smarter by the brave, strong and smart people that we surround ourselves with. We learn from others, get encouragement from their wisdom, knowledge and expertise just like Winnie the Pooh did from his team of stuffed friends that Alan Milne so brilliantly brought to life.
So in remembrance of Mr Pooh, share your favourite quote with your people and let them know why you love it so much, what did it bring to life in you?
